Paladin Alternate Investments Inc. are a US company with satellite offices worldwide. They invest in gold, art, classic cars and Scotch Whisky on behalf of their clients. The brief was to create a label design system that could be adapted to the Whisky from different distilleries that they invested in.
As the client was completely new to not only the creative process, but also to the complexities of luxury label printing within the alcoholic drinks sector, a package was proposed to provide additional expertisein this area so they could be assured that all technical aspects were dealt with.
Throughout the process, visuals have been shown to simulate embellishments such as foiling and embossing and samples have been shared to manage client expectations in terms of paper stock, foiling colours. Also pre-production print trials were run to set a standard for all labels. A beautiful uncoated textured paper was sourced, combining digital label printing, with the addition of a luxurious hot foil to achieve a premium but cost effective print solution for very short run label quantities. A common foil was created so that only 1 tooling fee was charged, whilst the digital information could change per print run.
Collaboration with various bottlers has been essential to ensure that the same finished product can be achieved on each of their production lines and the label adheres to ‘Scotch Whisky Association’ regulations and HMRC Spirit Drinks Verification Scheme.
Due to the success of this, involvement in sourcing a bespoke bottle and closure for their higher end Whiskies has also been undertaken to provide the client with cost effective solutions for limited run bottle decoration and embellishment.
